Update on 9/11 Commission Debacle

Here it is. Proving once more that our mothers were right: Pride does, indeed, goeth before a fall.

It's more than just pride. It's also evidence that we need to change the entire culture of Washington, D.C. The protection of Gorelick and of Sandy Berger are horrible stains on the ethical climate within the Executive Branch of government. It is disheartening that since the Reagan Administration (where leadership seemed to be of generaly honorable moral character with the exception of those involved with Iran Contra) we have made very little progress in this area (largely due to Clinton in my estimation).

One can expect such pecidillos within the Legislative Branch which may be corrosive to the legislative process but somewhat benign when it comes to governance and policy implementation. Those who occupy the White House can have only relative success in reforming a culture of lies and deceit within the various departments of government but a profound effect in supporting and extending its corruption. It's a Political Law of Entropy based in the study of human nature seldom considered by our Executive in the hail of political ideas which come in with successive administrations.

Though there is a cultural belief to the contrary, we can do much better. And it would be good to have an administration committed to this principle of reform I propose.

I think the first step to changing the current culture of DC is to oust this Administration that has brought such partisan hate and immoral and unethical behaviour.

It is an Administration of corruption that is staining our Democracy and society and besmirching the good name of the United States of America throughout the world.

Actually, as noted here, Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer just recanted his story. He now claims that he never actually gave any member of the 9/11 commission or their staff Mohammed Atta's name. Once again your biggest story fo the summer moves even further into farce.

Let's count how nonsensical this is. 1) You have the whole Curt Weldon fiasco--"I gave the only copy of an important document in existence to someone else without even really looking at it." 2) The wingnut right's attempt to slime Jamie Gorelick. Hint to jim pfaff, Gorelick's "wall" effected only FBI intelligence gathering and law enforcement branches and NOT military intelligence, which Able Danger was if it even existed at all. 3) Now a reusrrection of the same old same old based on Shaffer's bogus claims whichhe has now recanted.

I guess having Carol or anyone on this board admit that they were wrong is a little too much to ask. I am looking forward to hearing oprhan in bama explain how Anthony Shaffer's faulty memory is also Clinton's fault.
