Pepsi's Not-So-Wholesome Ad

Setting a less than wholesome example for all the little girls out there who admire her (what a surprise!), Christina Aguilera has embarked on a new Pepsi campaign that, not surprisingly, involves the donning of minimal clothing coupled with seductive dancing.

Carol - first blush commentary, most of which amount to: Chill.

-- Yuk. If her goal were to look sexy, this linked photo is a step backward. Her biggest assets are her voice and mystique. She should use those and get off this image.

-- Multi-cultural appeal. She actually looks like a belly dancer. The ad to me doesn't so much say "sexy" as "global."

-- Parents. If you are fretting about what girls might be exposed to, understand that this father of two girls has many more pressing issues. Luckily, we take them on. But on my list of complaints, I wouldn't start with this ad.

Of course, if Byron York says as much in two weeks, please quote and hat-tip him.

Y'all could be jaded. A commercial ain't a huge concern in and of itself alone, but a piece of the entire puzzled that is the degradation of cultural mores. My three girls are modest, thankfully, but I see young girls constantly in my job and they (and their parents, apparently) have a far different idea of appropriate attire than do I. You gotta go a lot younger to find real innoncence in children these days. That's sad. It's also not a good example of our national concern for our children.

Sniff.

I have seen worse coming out of hotel rooms during the Southern Baptist Convention.

Cav,

Very funny. The thought of you monitoring the attendees of a Baptist Convention, that is.

Goetz,

Nice try. I suppose the sight of young girls dressing provacatively is appealing to you. Stay away from junior high schools please.
