Too Old, Too Soon

Tweens are morphing into teens. Here's a story about a worrisome trend.

But at least it may spark a long-overdue conversation. It's long past time that we all tried to get a handle on what we, as a society, think is appropriate for public consumption and the impact those choices have on young people.

I'd put up with almost anything if they could just write a meaningful sentence and do some basic algebraic manipulation.

On the other hand - Each semester I have 2 or 3 recent veterans in each class. These kids are magnificant. They work hard, they take their education seriously. Speaking as an old vet - They are better than we were, and I say that with pride.

With these kids - our nation is in good hands

Where some think that "getting in as much living as they can" means debasing themselves and wallowing in carnal desires, mature adults are alarmed that the amount of immature adults has grown to so drastically influence kids in such a negative way. To feel that "getting in as much living" in such a manner is somehow vital to a person's legacy speaks volumes about the moral bankruptcy of so many in America today. Though one can do little about the fact that kids certainly are maturing physically (some see this as evidence of a "de-evolution" of our species) at earlier ages, keeping them on the "straight and narrow" well into adulthood has far more benefit for our society than does the enabling done by those immature adults in the media, entertainment and even in education. But it's what we deserve for not more forcefully demanding that the government enforces standards of decency. Now we pay the price of dropping that ball with the higher incidence of STDs, pregnancies and abortions, and rapes.
