As Good As It Sounds?

It's enough to make any conservative nervous when the foreign policy and/or Washington establishments start praising Condi Rice's initiatives to "talk" with some of our adversaries in the Middle East.

It just never seems like a good sign when those who attack President Bush's foreign policy for its "moralism" start praising the Secretary of State. Here's hoping she hasn't been captured by the Foggy Bottom establishment.

Personally, I don't have a problem with some dialogue being maintained with our enemies. If nothing else, there's always the possibility that there has been a change of heart or mood or dynamics, the knowledge of which would be beneficial to our continuing efforts. What I do have a problem with is the notion that diplomacy is the main road we should be taking with these particular types of enemies. If we don't show our strength, and more importantly, our willingness to use it, talk will always be meaningless. But we can make ourselves known better by talks, even if only to reiterate our position. It too demonstrates our resolve, while also being open to their thoughts. Every tool must be in use in order to effect our ultimate goals.
