Driving Us to the Left?

John Lott makes a persuasive argument that women's suffrage has accounted for a definite leftward tilt in American politics.

That's not because all women vote liberal, of course -- just those who are single, or believe that they're likely to be single (through divorce, for example).

It all makes sense. In a sense, the left has created a Big Daddy Government that serves as a "partner" to single women in place of the husband (and father to their children) that they don't have.

Which give the Left a vested interest in family breakdown, and preventing family formation.

The "social engineering" activities of the Left in the civil rights area have had a profound effect on black America. One of those effects has been the almost total destruction of the black family structure with the result that most black children are born out of wedlock. This assures that black women almost uniformly will vote for the Left. This has also had the effect of marginalizing black men to the point where they are looked upon as totally unnecessary.

It works much the same way in other groups, although they may not be so clearly identifiable.
